Eight nearshore staffing providers for US engineering teams, compared with the same five questions: who fits what, how to choose, what you pay, red flags.

After your third nearshore sales call, they blur together. Every provider says its engineers are vetted, work in US time zones, and cost less than a US hire. That doesn't help you choose. Specific questions do, so this guide uses five of them to compare eight providers US teams use to hire engineers in Latin America and beyond.

One disclosure: we're Nexton, one of the eight. We list ourselves first because the question we weigh most is who runs the technical interview, and Nexton's public materials say every engineer is interviewed by another engineer. The other seven are alphabetical. Everything comes from public websites and Clutch or G2 profiles; where we couldn't verify something, we say so.

### **What is nearshore staff augmentation?**

Engineers in nearby countries and time zones join your team and work under your direction, while a provider handles some or all of the sourcing, vetting, employment, payroll, and compliance. For US companies, nearshore mostly means Latin America. Offshore means little time-zone overlap; project outsourcing means the provider owns delivery.

### **How do you choose a nearshore partner?**

- **Vetting.** Who runs the technical interview (a recruiter, an algorithm, or an engineer), and can you read it before the first call?
- **Speed.** What does the number time: brief to first candidates, or brief to signed offer?
- **Pricing.** Are compensation, employer costs, and the provider's fee shown separately?
- **Compliance.** Who holds the employment contract and runs payroll?
- **Guarantees.** What are the replacement window, clock, and cost, in writing?

### **Which nearshore company fits what? The eight providers**

Ratings: Clutch unless noted. Review counts as of October 2026.

#### **1. Nexton**

Latin America · 4.9/5 on Clutch (17 reviews)

**In short.** A human-powered company building nearshore engineering teams for US companies; every engineer is interviewed by another engineer before you see the profile. Offers staff augmentation, direct hire, and payroll and employer-of-record options, plus Nexton AI Ready, a program for AI certifications issued by recognized platforms and industry bodies.

**Best for.** Companies that want embedded, long-term engineers and value evaluation depth over bench size.

**What sets it apart.** Engineer-run evaluation, with vetting notes shared with you. Nexton reports a first matched candidate within 72 hours (matched, interested, engineer-vetted), a four-week brief-to-offer average, 1,500+ placements, and 350+ US companies, including TripAdvisor and MasterClass.

#### **2. BairesDev**

Americas (offices incl. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico) · 4.9/5 on Clutch (63 reviews)

**In short.** A software development partner founded in 2009 with 4,000+ senior engineers and 500+ clients (self-reported). Offers staff augmentation, dedicated teams, and end-to-end delivery.

**Best for.** Large capacity or full project delivery, mid-market and enterprise. Clutch lists a $50,000 minimum project size.

**What sets it apart.** Scale; says it hires fewer than 1% of applicants. Cost is its lowest Clutch sub-score (4.6 of 5).

#### **3. Blue Coding**

Central and South America · No verified public rating found

**In short.** US-based, remote-first, founded in 2014. Offers staff augmentation, build-operate-transfer centers, managed development, and AI engineer pods.

**Best for.** Teams that may later want their own Latin American development center.

**What sets it apart.** The build-operate-transfer option; says it costs 30–40% less than US talent (self-reported).

#### **4. Near (Hire With Near)**

Latin America · 4.9/5 on Clutch (55 reviews)

**In short.** A staffing and recruiting agency founded in 2021, hiring across engineering, finance, sales, and support; 3,500+ placements (self-reported). Direct hire for a placement fee, or a monthly staffing model with payroll handled.

**Best for.** One partner across several functions. If technical evaluation is your constraint, ask how interviews are run.

**What sets it apart.** Published pricing models; reports most roles closed in under 21 days (self-reported). Some Clutch clients want more standardized screening.

#### **5. Revelo**

Latin America · 4.7/5 on G2 (106 reviews)

**In short.** A talent platform to find, hire, and pay developers; reports 400,000+ vetted engineers, with payroll handled in the platform.

#### **6. TECLA**

Latin America (offices in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru) · 4.9/5 on Clutch (21 reviews)

**In short.** A hiring partner founded in 2013 and based in Seattle, with 50,000+ vetted professionals and 300+ US clients (self-reported). Offers staff augmentation, recruiting, and RPO with HR support.

**Best for.** Startups and mid-market teams that want HR and onboarding handled. Clutch lists 25–49 per hour.

**What sets it apart.** A Latin America focus and multi-step vetting covering technical skills, English, and soft skills.

#### **7. Terminal**

Latin America, Canada, Europe · No verified public rating found

**In short.** A platform for remote engineering teams with a stated pool of 100K+ engineers. Hires full-time and contract engineers, with employment handled.

**Best for.** High-growth companies building across more than one region. Latin America-only buyers may prefer a regional specialist.

**What sets it apart.** A multi-region footprint; states about 7% of applicants pass its screening (self-reported).

#### **8. Toptal**

Worldwide · 4.8/5 on Clutch (53 reviews)

**In short.** A global network of 20,000+ vetted professionals across tech, design, and finance, founded in 2010; accepts the top 3% (self-reported).

**Best for.** Defined-scope or flexible work where time-zone overlap is secondary. Confirm overlap engineer by engineer.

**What sets it apart.** Screening that Clutch reviewers cite often. Clutch lists 100–149 per hour, and some reviewers note higher pricing.

### **Staff augmentation, direct hire, or employer of record: what's the difference, and what do you pay?**

It comes down to who employs the engineer. In **staff augmentation**, the provider or its local entity usually does, and you pay one monthly invoice combining compensation and the provider's fee. In a **direct hire**, you employ the engineer and pay a one-time placement fee. With an **employer of record**, a third party is the legal employer and charges a fee for payroll, benefits, and compliance. Whatever the model, ask each provider for the fully loaded monthly cost of one engineer, with compensation and fee shown separately.

### **What red flags should you watch for?**

A selectivity claim with no way to see what the screening tests, ratings you can't trace to a third-party profile, and answers that are adjectives instead of numbers, names, or documents.

### **Frequently asked questions**

**How long does it take to hire an engineer through a nearshore partner?** It depends on what is timed. Providers report anything from 72-hour shortlists to four-week brief-to-offer averages, all self-reported. Ask each to define its clock.

**How much cheaper is nearshore than hiring in the US?** Providers here publish savings of about 30% to 70% versus US hiring, each against a different baseline. Compare fully loaded monthly costs, not percentages.

**Do nearshore engineers work in US time zones?** Generally yes: Latin American engineers work within a few hours of US time zones, though it varies by country. Ask for overlap in hours, not adjectives.
